The Secret Traveler
Stephen Gardner

No one hears him.
He keeps his moving to himself
And in a wink
Is somewhere else.

She does not know he goes.
When she awakes he lies beside her
In the bed where they have slept
Their lives together. He leaves
No note, no clues. His shoes
Are where they always are.

His wife of thirty-seven years
Has never understood why
When he comes to bed each night
His feet are always damp,
His hair with its always
Salty smell and taste.
