Avocado Orchard Fire
Richard Boada

 Water-ripe flowers hiss
      and singe upon caloric

contact. The glacial fire
      smothers each fruit, peels

back green-purple skin,
      smelts pale flesh, does bees’

work, explodes seeds
      for biennial regeneration.

Ash patina veils the trees
      manumitted of form.
